The FAA requires this specific training to earn a tailwheel log book endorsement. Additionally many pilots take this course because they want to improve their flying skill, their airmanship. Those who master the requisite skills never look back from this enjoyable, rewarding adventure. In clear, comprehensible instruction, this course clarifies commonly misunderstood principles and encourages the good habits of airmanship. At Dylan Aviation School of Aerobatics and Airmanship, your training will be structured as a five-lesson syllabus. You will:

  • review the basic principles of flight and the pilot’s relationship to the airplane.
  • learn the science behind the skills of the quintessential tailwheel pilot.
  • fly four skill-building maneuvers that are applicable to all pilots.
  • forward slip to three point landings and wheel landings.
  • learn to master a tail wheel airplane when the wind blows.

Lessons are two hour sessions that include ground instruction and flight time. Pilots, flying two flights per day, complete their training in three days, and earn a tailwheel log book endorsement in accordance with FAR 61.31(i).

Tailwheel Skills Refresher Training

2 Lessons (half day) – Total cost $550

This half day tailwheel refresher training is a best buy if:
• You have a tailwheel endorsement but have not flown a tailwheel airplane recently;
• You are a low time tailwheel pilot and you are unclear about some skills;
• You are uncomfortable with cross wind landings;

In two 2-hour lessons completed in a half day, you will discuss tailwheel science subjects, review the fundamentals of three point and wheel landings, and address windy conditions. During two flights, you will focus on take-off, making a stable approach, three point and wheel landings and windy conditions.
