Dual Instruction

Your instructor, Jim Alsip is a professional flight instructor, and charter member of SAFE, The Society of Aviation and Flight Educators. Jim holds a Master CFI-Aerobatic designation and is a FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam) Representative. As a proud member of International Aerobatic Club (IAC) since 1994, Jim is both an aerobatic competitor and a regional aerobatic judge.

After years of providing Aerobatic, Spin and Tailwheel Training, Jim, like almost all experts in the field of Aviation and Flight Education, knows first hand that stick and rudder skills are woefully deficient among the general pilot population. Stick and rudder means much more than coordinated turns.
• Few pilots are comfortable, or even capable, of using full deflection of their airplane’s control surfaces.
• As pilot’s, we speak of situational awareness; but what situation? What does it mean? What should you do about it?
• If there is one most important skill in flying an airplane it is using the sight picture. What is the sight picture? What do you see? What do you do about it?
This complete definition of Stick and Rudder Skills is the primary theme of all dual instruction you will receive at Dylan Aviation Flight School. Jim will emphasis this concept whether you are receiving Aerobatic Training, Spin and Upset Recovery Instruction or working towards your Tail Wheel Endorsement; however, the syllabus that expresses definitive stick and rudder skills is Emergency Maneuvers Instruction.
Please consider taking this course. It is relevant, important and it is a best buy.

The Dylan Aviation Flight School has aircraft suited to your ability and purpose.
A Super Decathlon and a Pitts S2A are available for aerobatic training. The Super Decathlon (8KCAB) is a comfortable aircraft for beginning and casual aerobatics; yet, it has the performance required for competition in the Sportsman class. The Decathlon features 180hp, a constant speed prop and Hooker harnesses to hold you tight in the seat.

The Pitts S2A, designed by the famed Curtis Pitts, is a 1981, two seat biplane with a Lycoming 200 horsepower AEIO 360, and a constant speed propeller. The Pitts “Special” dominated world aerobatic competition wins since its first flight in 1944, and to this day, the Pitts remains a popular, affordable, viable choice in aerobatics.

The high performance Super Decathlon is recommended for Tail Wheel Training; however, a Super Cub PA18 is available. This “bush plane” classic provides a budget option to more costly training in the Super Decathlon.
